TVNZ Breakfast made a surprise visit to Brightwater Motors last week ahead of the monthly Chicks That Fix workshop they offer. Presenter Abbey Wakefield flew down from Wellington to meet the couple who run the course and have a go at changing a wheel live on television. “I had less than five minutes to get the wheel off and replace it with a new one,” says Abbey. “It was being screened live across the country, so I certainly felt the pressure!” Owner Dave Gilberd says, “We were thrilled to have TVNZ in the workshop. We were happy to teach Abbey some new skills and maybe being on TV will get even more women coming along to our classes. It’s really fun and informal and we have a few ladies come back each month.” Attendees can learn everything from doing a wheel change to finding out how the engine works. The free, women-only classes are held on the first Thursday of every month until the end of the year at Brightwater Motors.
