Producing a fundraising cookbook placed students in positions they never imagined themselves being in.
“A year ago, I would never have imagined myself on a zoom call with Ashley Bloomfield,” says Nate Wilbourne.
The book, entitled, ‘Riding the Covid Wave’ had the students ringing other well-known New Zealanders’ such as MP’s Chris Hipkins, Caroline McElmay and Damien O’Connor whose Covid experiences are included in the book.
“My first interview was with Nick Smith, but I wasn’t too nervous because he’s my friend’s uncle,” says student Jessica Wright.
“We now know Parliament’s hold music off by heart as Nate and I spent a lot of time ringing them,” Jessica added.
Student Tyler Taaffe said the best part of the experience was getting to understand what people had gone through as part of Covid, and that the interviews meant he got to know people from around the school better.
It was agreed that any profit from book sales would be a bonus and that the experience created for everyone involved in making the book was worth a lot more.
The book was launched on Monday and is available at PaperPlus Richmond and Nelson.
