Half a dozen local cyclists are competing at international events this year with 17-year Finn Fisher-Black the latest world champion among them.

Shaane Fulton and Finn have recently competed at the UCI World Junior Track Cycling Championships in Switzerland, with Finn winning a gold medal in the 4000m team pursuit, fourth in the 3000m individual pursuit and Shaane taking fifth place in the women’s Keirin final.

Britney Kerr and Finn’s sister Niamh Fisher-Black are preparing to compete at one of cycling’s biggest events, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) World Road Championships in Innsbruck, Austria, on September 27.

It should be really exciting, I can’t wait,” says Britney. “I was so stoked to be selected.”

The event will be Britney’s first time at the world championships and she’s explored the 71km course during simulator training, discovering some “decent climbing sections”.

Local mountain-bikers, national under-19 champion Sam Gale and Cameron Jones, will be racing in the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships this September in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.
