A 700-litre freezer for ‘Kai With Love’ had to count on a lot of help from the community to arrive in Richmond from the North Island.
“We’ve been looking for an affordable freezer this size for about six months. Most of them get snapped up quickly by the guys who hunt because you can fit a whole deer inside one,” said Abigail Packer, from ‘Kai With Love’.
“When we found this one the Richmond Community Church bought it for us. That’s how they sponsor us, with space and generously buying freezers for our needs,” she says. But still they needed to find a way to bring it down here, and that’s when Mark Holland, the General Manager of TNL Freighting, authorised and organised the transport free of charge. “We have a good relationship with TNL, but this was a big ask. We called Mark and he was fabulous.
He didn’t hesitate. He said ‘Yes, if you can get that into our depot in Drury we will bring it down here and deliver it to you,’ said Abigail. “This big freezer has made our weekly logistics so much easier so we can concenrate more on doing what we do, giving food with to those who need a little more, and doing it with love.”
Kai With Love’s goal is to eliminate food waste in the Nelson region, distributing it to families in need.
