New Nelson Tasman Hospice building on schedule for 2019

The new Nelson Tasman Hospice facility is on track for completion in early 2019 with staff and patients set to move in during March.
Steady progress is being made at the Suffolk Rd site in Stoke and key stakeholders were offered a tour on Friday, April 20.
The total cost of the new facility is $11.5 million with the hospice contributing $7.5 million.
This left the project needing a further $4million of which more than half has already been raised.
Marketing and fund-raising manager Paul McIntyre says the community businesses and grant bodies had responded with amazing generosity.
“We have no government funding for this project, so we really do rely on the kindness of our wonderful community.”
The design for the new hospice includes 10 patient units, day stay rooms and outdoor areas.
A feature of the new site will be a daffodil garden with more than 170 tree types being planted in the next six weeks.
Wheelchair accessible pathways will be installed so patients can relax in the serenity.
Hospice CEO Frans Dellebeke is delighted with the progress.
“There has been some challenging weather they have had to deal with, so it’s really exciting to be at this point and to show how well the building is going,” says Frans.
The hospice cares for over 160 patients at any one time with most being looked after in their own homes in the Nelson Tasman region.
