This Saturday, September 1, marks the start of a six-week “unique” hunting competition with all proceeds going toward a late hunter’s daughter’s education.

When Pete Adams had a mole removed and tested from his leg in 2015 the results came back clear, but a couple of years later it became apparent Pete had been misdiagnosed, leaving him to battle stage four melanoma. A battle he lost on July 27 this year.

So, when his fellow hunting mate Blair Jones decided he wanted to help Pete in some way he came up with a “hunting competition for everyone”.

It was really the idea of doing something Pete loved to help him and his family out,” says Blair.

Aimed to eliminate the pressure of people having to hunt over a weekend or a short period of time, Blair’s created the six-week competition which will be judged on videos made from people’s hunts.

Judges for the 2-5minute videos that can be created on smart phones, GoPro’s or hand-held video cameras are yet to be announced, and Blair says the public can watch as videos will be constantly uploaded to the Tasman Territory Hunting Competition 2018 Facebook page. A move which he also hopes will also act as motivation for others to sign up to the competition.

The categories of shotgun, heavy calibre, blackpowder/muskets, centre fire, bow hunting and kids hunt, cost $35 per entry with the kid’s category free, and all kids receive a spot prize.

Prizes for the competition include guided hunts in Tasman and Central Otago, rifles, knives and clothing.

If you’re needing equipment or ammunition, Blair recommends visiting Shane Kelly at Brightwater’s Kelly Country shop, a principle sponsor.

Spread the love.
