Waimea College has been awarded second-place in the inaugural Showquest national final, New Zealand’s new music, dance and drama showcase for schools.
The online judging took place over the week from September 17 and event judge and renowned kiwi singer, Jackie Clarke, says she found the school performances thoroughly engaging.
“There is no better feeling, and there is no more healing and positive energy you can bring to the world then actually putting on a show, communicating ideas, feelings, emotions, and aspirations, and sharing that with your community,” says Jackie.
Waimea College’s piece ‘Distorted Images’ was themed around body image.
Student co-captain Jordana Arnold says, “we wanted to get across the message that you don’t have to change yourself to fit in, just be yourself and express yourself”.
Teams were judged overall on their performance, soundtrack, costuming, choreography and theme.
