Over the next two weeks the Nelson Youth Theatre Company will be taking you on a trip back in time, with their production of Grease. Richmond resident Aimee Robinson, one of the show’s choreographers, has been doing Youth Theatre since she was eight years old. “I’ve choreographed for nine shows, starting when I was 12. I love the experience that Youth Theatre gives of performing in front of an audience. I think getting the opportunity to choreograph musicals for Youth Theatre has really opened up a whole new world of dance and teaching opportunities for me. It’s been really valuable in teaching me leadership skills, that will be difficult to replace. I have really loved meeting the people I have through Youth Theatre. I have made some beautiful friends that share my passions. Dancing, acting and singing for me, is a complete joy and utter adrenaline rush, it’s something I really love.” Richmond’s Alex Jensen and Seth Blackburn play Sandy and Danny (Alex is also choreographing the show along with Aimee) and they are excited to be performing the show at the Theatre Royal.
Aimee promises audiences will have a fun night and says, “Grease is jam-packed with hit songs and upbeat dancing, but still captures the true essence of adolescence. You can expect lots of laughs, lots of dancing and a really fun time!”
Grease runs for two weeks from Wednesday 19 to Saturday 22 September, and Tuesday 25 to Saturday 29 September.
Tickets are available through TicketDirect or the Theatre Royal.
