Outdoor exercise equipment at parks around the Tasman district are proving popular according to the Tasman District Council. Stationary exercise equipment which is free for members of the public has been installed at Motueka, Tapawera and Richmond. TDC manager of reserves and facilities, Richard Hollier says it was introduced to keep up with community demands.
“It is designed to meet the needs of our changing demographic, promoting and enabling health and well-being opportunities and they are proving popular,” he says.
The equipment has been progressively installed over the last couple of months for just over $14,000. “We have recently surveyed users and local neighbourhoods and the feedback has been resoundingly positive with the sites providing a social nexus as well as a cost effective means of promoting all age health and well-being,” Mr Hollier says.
