The Brightwater Community Association and the director of sports at the Wanderers club, Marty Davis, would like to see upgrades on the current gym, club rooms, tennis courts and volleyball courts. They also hope to see a hub created for use by members and the community.
Marty and chairperson of the BGWCA Matt Stuart spoke with the TDC and approval has been given for renovations and improvements.
The facility is already being used by several groups including seniors balance and mobility classes and women’s aerobic fitness classes. With seniors’ classes in high demand, and people travelling from Hope and Richmond to join in, an additional class has been added.
Unlike city gyms, there isn’t a big fee. Instead, it is community-based and driven.
The Brightwater Committee is wanting to cater for those who want to participate as their own small group. To facilitate this, they are hoping to have tennis and squash rackets available so that cost is not a deterrent.
They are hoping to extend facility usage to residents of Spring Grove, Wakefield and Upper Moutere.
