CEO says goodbye to TDC

After seven years as Tasman District Councils CEO, Lindsay McKenzie has said goodbye to his position and will be enjoying some well-deserved time off for his retirement.
The chief executive officer is appointed by the Mayor and councillors to manage council operations and lead the council’s administrative organisation.
Lindsay says his biggest highlight has been getting the council finances and asset management onto a more sustainable path. “We had a bit of trouble back in 2012, but now I think we have it under control.”
Mayor Richard Kempthorne says a great deal of the success of the council since 2012 was directly attributable to Lindsay’s leadership of the staff and his relationship with the elected members.
Lindsay has enjoyed all the positive things he has been able to do for the community, “The big things, the Golden Bay Recreation Centre, investing in the Velodrome at Saxton Field. I am extremely proud of the massive effort that the team have put in for the council. I feel we have evolved and are now able to tell a story about what we have achieved.”
When asked about what the future holds for Richmond, Lindsay believes it looks “very bright.”
The ex-CEO will be staying in the district and will still have a temporary active role working part-time for the council on the controversial Waimea dam project. “I’ve agreed with the mayor to provide time from now until Christmas to support the land and access work stream.”
But he also is looking forward to a few holidays in between his work commitments, “half of me says it’s retirement, half of me says it’s a break. We have a couple of holidays booked but will be staying in the area. I love it here, it is such an easy place to live. The climate is benign, most of the time, and the support services are just great. It’s a fantastic place to be.”
Lindsay McKenzie’s new replacement has been selected and Janine Dowding has started her new role this week.
