Fonterra’s Brightwater employees recently took off their PPE and donned gardening gloves to help plant 400 native trees near their workplace.

As part of the project to beautify the Great Taste Trail alongside the Wairoa River, they joined representatives from Nelson Tasman Cycle Trail Trust and Tasman District Council to do the planting.

“Many staff use the trail for walks and bike rides with their families and they wanted to be an active part of its improvement,” says Fonterra environmental manager Caitlyn Poole.

She says that the team was so enthusiastic about helping that most of the 30 site employees turned up. “The planting day really demonstrated the attitude of our team on site – getting the best job done with a smile on their face,” says Caitlyn.

After the planting, she says, it was straight back to work at the plant.
