Emily and Annie Eden always sat next to each other in the classroom but may find themselves sitting on opposite sides of the courtroom.
The Richmond locals studied law together at Victoria University, and two weeks ago were admitted to the bar.
Emily is working locally as a defence lawyer and last week had her first court appearance.
“I was slightly terrified at first, but it was good to get the first one done,” she says.
Annie is in the process of applying to join the police force. During her time at Victoria she realised that she didn’t want to be a lawyer but did enjoy law. She hopes to be a detective which would have her on the opposing side to Emily.
“I think it would be great to be across the courtroom from Emily, but legally she can’t cross-examine me. But I do tell her that I will be trying to put her clients in jail,” Annie said.
“The girls have always been close but flatting together for four of the five years at Victoria made them quite competitive,” says their mum Faye Eden.
She said that an ‘A’ became a disappointment for them if the other sister got an A+. But Faye did add that she is very proud of her girls.
