Two local businesses got outstanding results at this year’s Nelson Hospitality Awards. The prizes given on 9 September went to Takeshi Nagahama, from restaurant La Capilla in Appleby, who won as Best Head Chef of the year and for Raeward Fresh, in Richmond, chosen as People’s Choice Best Local Supplier.

“The prize of head chef is not just for me. It’s for the team who works with me and also who trained me in Spain and Japan and also other countries that I have been. It is all this accumulation,” says Takeshi.

The building where he established his restaurant used to be a Methodist Church and this is very important for the client’s experience. “I want the customer to enjoy everything. It’s not just about food. They come here and enjoy the ambiance, where they can feel different, disconnected from their reality. If they come here and they are having a chat with family or friends, a nice time, then we can help with nice food, nice service and a nice ambiance, that is for me the best thing,” he says.

For Gareth Caldwell, owner – operator of Raeward Fresh Richmond, their team also has an indispensable part in the prize.
“A massive thanks to everyone who took the time and voted for us, we are very proud to have won! We are very lucky to have such loyal local customers who we can’t thank enough for their ongoing support. This award is also a really nice pat on the back for all of our very hard-working team,” he says.

Spread the love.
