Cycling Nelson hosted one of their weekly club days on November 11, with riders from all walks of life gathering together for a bit of friendly competition and catching up. After a 4-year hiatus from Trafalgar Park, the club, which dates back to 1935, is building up its momentum again at the recently completed Velodrome and they are keen to hear from anyone interested in having a go at the track. The club are offering riders the use of a track bike, along with mentoring, support and encouragement, to give people the confidence to go for a ride. Jason Craig, Cycling Nelson president, says the venue is in the top three tracks in New Zealand.

“I encourage people to come and have a look and make the most of the amazing facility we have here.” Club treasurer Justine Kennard agrees, saying the club is extremely family-inclusive. “We accommodate both levels of needs; recreational and race-orientated. Everyone is supportive and we have a real mix of people from all different skill levels and really encourage people to come and try it for themselves.” Parents and spectators are keen to point out that the club has a community atmosphere and it is a great way to get kids off their devices and out into the fresh air.
