A dead pig was found lying on the seat of a Richmond bus stop on the morning of Wednesday, September 19.

Local taxi driver John Pirie came across the dead pig in the early hours of this morning.

“I was just driving past doing my thing when I saw it. It looked extremely healthy, almost as though it could’ve been sleeping.”

He says he couldn’t see any signs of a cause of death.

Tasman District Council communications manager Chris Choat says he saw it on his way in to Richmond this morning.

“Someone’s killed it and couldn’t be bothered to do anything with it, so they have dumped it there.

“I didn’t stop, but it appears as though someone has shot it or stuck it quickly.”

He says he hasn’t seen it up-close so can’t speculate on how the animal came to its “sad end”.

“I just saw it and I rang our guys and asked them to go and get it, it will be removed shortly.

“I imagine there’s a couple of teenagers giggling into their cornies this morning.”
