Artist Cindy Hutton is looking forward to the personal interaction with visitors to this year’s Art Expo Nelson, being held this Friday to Sunday at the Trafalgar Centre. “I do like to meet people who buy my work. It’s different from pieces that are bought in an exhibition and go overseas, and you never meet the buyers.”

One piece by Cindy that she will have at the show is an oil painting of the Boat Shed that she created for the ‘Colour Your Life’ tv show. “Graeme Stevenson is an Australian who goes throughout the world profiling artists and what they create in 24 hours. He came over here in October and filmed me for that. It was a great experience and good for my confidence as an artist. I was encouraged that he saw something in my work that he wanted to make a show out of it.” Cindy has since spent seven months painting a further six pieces especially for Art Expo Nelson, the works showcase the beauty of the high country.

At this year’s Art Expo Nelson, there will be a chance for art lovers to decide the overall favourite, with a People’s Choice selected by popular vote.

A selection panel will help narrow it down to ten pieces first and then the public will choose it from there.

The Trafalgar Centre doors open to the public from 10am every day this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (31 August – 2 September).

There will be over 100 artists with over 1000 pieces of artworks for sale.

Art Expo Nelson has received sponsorship funding for this year’s event from the Nelson Events Marketing & Development Programme, which is funded by the Nelson City Council.

The programme’s objective is to stimulate Nelson city’s economy in the shoulder and off season.
