It’s been an integral part of the community for decades and in October, Richmond Playcentre will mark their 50th anniversary with a celebration.
Officially opening on May 25, 1968, the playcentre, encouraging parent-led early childhood education, was originally located in a Queen St church hall before moving to its present site on Waverley St ten years later.
Current president Olivia Hyatt says they’re hoping to see past children and families of the playcentre reunite at the celebrations.
“All sorts of people in the community have attended this playcentre, we’d love to try and reconnect with as many as possible and hope they’ll come and join our day,” says Olivia.
The celebration date is yet to be set, although it’ll be in October, and held on the neighbouring school field in the form of “a giant play session”.
“We’re really looking forward to it and encourage everyone to turn up and come and enjoy the day.”
Olivia says the playcentre is going from strength to strength with lots of families made up from the vibrant community around it.
With three sessions every week from 9am-12pm, Monday, Wednesday & Friday, locals down at the centre say they welcome one and all with pre-school children to join them in fun sessions.
