The ladies of Waimea Nelson Inner Wheel support a number of groups within the wider community.
On June 14, they donated a cheque, blankets, teddies, beanies and scarves to Foster Hope Nelson Marlborough. The items have been all been lovingly handmade by local members of the Inner Wheel group.
Club president, Judy Ericson, says, “it is just a drop in the bucket for these wonderful charities, but every little thing helps. This donation, to Foster Hope, will be one of many ongoing donations to them in the future.”
Inner Wheel was founded in 1924, in England, by Margaret Golding and is now the world’s largest women’s voluntary service organisation, which boasts over 100,000 members in approximately 4000 clubs, in over 100 countries worldwide.
Judy says the club supports groups such as Look Good Feel Better, Richmond Scouts, Women’s Refuge, Nelson Hospital Children’s Ward, cancer patients undergoing treatment, Foster Hope, Alzheimer and Dementia patients, Daffodil Day and Ma’s Place. “Sometimes it’s the small things that can make a difference, and we want to make people aware of these things in the community, if people want to do something to help.”
Erica Ranger, Foster Hope Nelson Marlborough representative, has been a part of the organisation since October last year, and says, “it is amazing to receive donations like these, and for them to know that the kids will benefit from them one hundred percent. It is really rewarding.”
Bags and carry-all’s are given to children, when they are removed from their home, including items such as essential hygiene products, books, clothes and soft toys, “without donations like these, the packs just wouldn’t be the same,” says Erica.
