It’s been 512 days since Richmond’s Queen St upgrade kicked off and while at times the wait for completion may have seemed arduous, the mood among retailers at Richmond Unlimited’s BBQ Business Breakfast on Monday, July 2, was buoyant.
Richmond District Community Patrollers manned the bbq and Mayor Richard Kempthorne had the honour of cutting the ribbon. “I’m so glad for everyone in the street and beyond that it’s reopened. It’s been a long time and really challenging. People have been generally understanding, occasionally unhappy, but knowing it had to be done to fix the stormwater issues.”
Costing nearly $15 million the upgrade that began on February 7, 2017, reduces the risk of flooding to properties in Queen St and includes the replacement of old and undersized water and stormwater pipes and the creation of a stunning new street environment for Richmond’s main artery.
