Performers battle it out for Showquest title

The Trafalgar Centre will be pumping with excitement on June 26, as student teams jump on stage in New Zealands new music, dance and drama event, Showquest.
The event is a collaboration between Rockquest Promotions and local performing arts group BreakOut, and with the support of local council.
Nelson is the second region to stage the new performance event for schools, with local teens capturing the spirit of the event in themes that are important to them.
Among the seven local teams performing at the event are Waimea College and Waimea intermediate.
Waimea College’s team will be presenting ‘Distorted Images’, a performance that explores societies fascination with covering up flaws in order to fit in. While 42 dancers will take to the stage for Waimea Intermediate’s melodrama, ‘Mermaids Tears: Oceans of Plastic’, a performance that highlights the vulnerability our oceans and ecosystems are facing from polluting plastics. Matt Ealand, Rockquest Promotions Auckland, says, “Showquest is structured on a competitive framework, but with the driving rationale, as with all the Rock Promotions events, to encourage participation, creative growth and team work,” he says. “We find that if we are able to provide a platform where students can express themselves on their own terms within the boundaries of the event, the rewards go far beyond the rush of performing on the day.”
